When Joseph Stern opened a jewellery store in 1896, no one ever thought that more than a 100 years later it would still be a market leader in the South African jewellery industry. The Austrian immigrant opened his store in Johannesburg with the dream of making the beauty of jewellery available to everyone, and not only a select few.

More than 100 years ago a store opened in Cape Town and since opening, they have been providing South African customers with high quality jewellery. American Swiss was opened in 1896, and today they are still going strong due to their unwavering ability to stay on the cutting edge of jewellery trends and design.
The chain got its name from a Russian immigrant, Isaiah Hirschsohn who landed in Cape Town with two suitcases, one filled with American produced watches and the other with Swiss watches, and the American Swiss Watch Company was born.
American Swiss sells gold, white gold and silver jewellery as well as diamonds and other precious and semi-precious stone jewellery. They have a national footprint and you can find them in most shopping centres.
