When Joseph Stern opened a jewellery store in 1896, no one ever thought that more than a 100 years later it would still be a market leader in the South African jewellery industry. More than 100 years ago a store opened in Cape Town and since opening, they have been providing South African customers with high quality jewellery. American Swiss was opened in 1896, and today they are still going strong due to their unwavering ability to stay on the cutting edge of jewellery trends and design.
The chain got its name from a Russian immigrant, Isaiah Hirschsohn who landed in Cape Town with two suitcases, one filled with American produced watches and the other with Swiss watches, and the American Swiss Watch Company was born.
